A door ding or dent on an electric vehicle is something that RPS is confident repairing. We see many more electric cars or hybrid cars all over our roads, and RPS has to be constantly learning to fix these vehicles correctly and safely. We prioritize learning, not taking shortcuts, and ensuring that we use the newest technology and education to ensure proper repairs.

Technology is changing quickly, and we see more and more EVs on the roads. They will be very prevalent with time as the world focuses on the environment and the superior technology that EV/Hybrid vehicles bring. We are excited to keep up with the trends and keep ourselves on the edge of education on repairing them. If we make one wrong move, the repair can be detrimental to the car or the tech repairing the vehicle.

How do we repair a dent or door ding in an electric vehicle?

First, the tech does look at the schematic or map of the vehicles to see where the battery lines are located in the car.  Second, if there is a battery cable in the panel that we want to repair, we follow the necessary steps to power down the vehicle. We will take the panel apart to ensure a proper repair and avoid damaging any battery lines or wiring. We work the dents from the inside out and use a variety of sharp metal tools. It’s essential to understand where these cables run because, in the pdr process, we are using various sharp metal tools to repair dents in vehicles from the underside of the panel. If one of these pdr tools punctures or pierces an electric conduction cable in an electric vehicle, then not only can the car be heavily damaged, but the PDR technician could be injured.  Once the dent repair is complete, we can power up the vehicle per the manufacturer’s specs. Sometimes a post-scan is necessary to ensure that everything is properly functioning.

Our techs are certified to do these repairs and power up and down the car without damage. We are all IMI Level 2 EV and Hybrid trained. This safeguards you, your car, and us. This training is qualified and recognized by the Institute of motor technology.
